Ray Everett

Director Product Management & Principal Consultant, TRUSTe

Ray Everett, CIPP/US, is Principal Consultant and Director of Product for Compliance Solutions at TRUSTe. Ray has spent nearly two decades working at the intersection of privacy and risk management. Appointed as one of the first US corporate privacy officers in 1999, he was an original founding board member of the IAPP. Prior to joining TRUSTe, Ray managed global advertising and search privacy issues for Yahoo, and served as general manager for the privacy monitoring business unit at Keynote Systems. Co-author of two books on privacy, he has also provided consulting on customer and human resources data privacy issues for more than two dozen Global 2000 firms in healthcare, financial services, online services, brick-and-mortar retail, and e-commerce. Based in San Francisco, CA, Ray is a graduate of George Washington University Law School.


John P. Tomaszewski 

Senior Counsel in the International Data Protection Practice Group, Seyfarth Shaw LLP

John Tomaszewski is Senior Counsel in the International Data Protection Practice Group of Seyfarth Shaw LLP.  He has significant experience counseling companies regarding data protection and information security throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia. His clients have included a myriad of technology companies as well as financial services, pharmaceuticals, and e-commerce companies of all sizes.

John was the inaugural Chief Privacy Officer for CheckFree (now FISERV), where he created both the internally and externally facing global privacy program for the US online bill payment pioneer. As the general counsel of TRUSTe, he ensured that the privacy certification programs for the most successful privacy Trustmark in the world were recognized globally as best-in-class on an international scale. John has prepared data protection documentation for HR departments, cloud service providers, social media companies, and a host of both traditional “brick-and-mortar” and emerging technology clients. He has also developed fair information practice statements, certification practice statements, Digital Signature policies, non-disclosure agreements, and similar information security and confidentiality instruments.  John has been a co-author of several information security and privacy publications, including the PKI Assessment Guidelines and Privacy, Security and Information Management: An Overview, as well as publishing scholarly works of his own on the topic. He has also provided input to the drafting of various security and privacy laws around the world; including the new APEC Cross-Border Privacy Rules system, which was included in the White House’s Privacy Bill of Rights initiative in 2012. He is a frequent speaker globally on the topics of cloud computing, self-regulatory organizations, data protection, and cross-border privacy frameworks. John Graduated from St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas, where he held the position of Solicitations/Articles Editor of the St. Mary’s Law Journal. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Texas in Austin.
